Description

Transcript of text: - Smith (1750) describes this as ruins of a sumptuous castle built by the Flemings and afterwards owned by the Roches. There is a high tower erected on arched vaults and around it a strong wall flanked with turrets. Amy Fleming married Roche who was a soldier of fortune and built many castles. In 1601 Lord Fermoy occupied it but the property was fortified after 1641. The castle was besieged by Ireton and surrendered. There were two distinct keeps, one square, the other a ruined oblong building with a slender tower. - The long narrow bridge was built in 1446.
