It was a very strong castle garrisoned by the Earl of Desmond against the forces of Elizabeth. This estate was sold to Sir R. Boyle after the Sugar Earl was attainted in 1601. In Cromwell's time it was owned by the the Clifford family, in 1690 Capt. Clifford married a Miss Moore of Aghern. In 1805 George Bowles became the owner, before that date the Corban family lived in it. Of the two towers the W. one is only a shell. - See Cork Jour. 1916 & 1927. - Download size (PDF): 236 KB.
